5 September 2009

HI All: We made it to Arizona today with no troubles. I even got 11 MPG for a while today also. Coming down off the Continental Divide. It was 7400 feet high, we are now at about 5000 I think in Holebrook, AZ. The campground is pretty nice, gravel sites. Extra long so the rig fits well in it. Have WiFi and Cable TV. WE also have RAIN. It started raining about an hour before we got to the campground, and I had to hook up in the rain. RAIN in the desert of Arizona, who whodda thought??? It has stopped now, but is still cloudy and looks like more rain may be in our future. Does cool it off nice though. It was 77 as a high today, and when we hit the rain it went to 57, so it is nice and cool now. WE will be here tomorrow, so plan to look around at what they have here. Can't imagine there is much as Holebrook is just a spot in the desert here. But we do have a McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, Gas Station etc here. Gas is $2.55 gallon, and diesel is $2.49. First time I've see diesel cheaper than regular gas. Wish I could send some back to Ken...He needs to get a tanker and come here and get some??? Not a good idea huh???
The photo's are shots of the area we came thru today. We noticed a smoke stack sticking up out of the ground around some mountains here. Still don't know what was out there. The big flat looking rock is just that, a LARGE smooth rock as big as a mountain next to the road, and there is a photo of the rain waiting down the road on us. We also went thru a lot of country that was covered with Lava rock. There must have been a volcano around there somewhere??
We will leave here day after tomorrow for Williams, AZ where we will be staying for a week. Going to visit the Grand Canyon from there, and I don't know what else. After that we go to Camp Verde, AZ to a 1000 Trails campground, and Jack and Yoli will come up from Phoenix to stay at the campground cabins they have there for a few days visit, and we can visit the places from there, rather than have to drive all the way up from Phoenix like we usually do. Looking forward the time there.
All is going great. See ya later.
Semper Fi.
