31 August 2009

Hi All: The only photo's we have for today is "On The Road" shots. Above are a couple of pretty country, How they make room for the road. Just blast the rocks away, Even found a tunnel on the way, and a photo of arrival in Oklahoma.
We are at a KOA campground in Checotah, OK. It's the birthplace of Carrie Underwood, the American Idol winner, and now C&W music star....The weather today has been super. It was 58 when we left Branson, and go up to about 76 I think when we got to the campground at around 1430. Drove about 250 miles, and the first 150 out of Branson was beautiful, BUT in the Ozark Mountains, so it was two lane up and down the mountains. Had no problem, but does slow things up. Got behind a travel trailer that didn't know how to go faster than 35, and there were no passing areas. Traffic was backed up behind us for quite a ways. Finally got around it though, and made it to I-40 where things got a lot better. We will be on I-40 all the way to The Grand Canyon area, so I doubt I will have any more mountain travels. Maybe some in New Mexico at the bottom of the Rocky Mountains????
This campground is OK for a one night stop. Made reservations and found we didn't need to do that as we got here and no one was in the office, and it was locked. Sign said to just pick a site and come back at 1730 and register, AND you can have dinner there also. Saw the menu and we have decided we will cook in tonight. Not a catfish kind of guy. Satellite works great, WiFi is supposed to be available, but I couldn't log on to it, so My Verizon thingy works great.
We leave in the morning again, so will probably only have a few more shots of highway travel for the next few days.

30 1/2 August 2009

HI Again: This mail is primarily for Pete Anthony, Amy's cousin in PA that has the fish hatchery. WE found this hatchery here in Branson just below the dam on the White River. The fish runs are all outside and covered with nets to keep the fish birds from eating them. They have fish from about 2 inches to over 12 inches. They have tens of thousands of fish, mostly Rainbow Trout, with some Brown Trout also. Biggest batch of fish I've ever seen. They get their water right from the white river which is about 300 yards from the fish runs. Not sure how many runs they have, but there are dozens of them.. Just thought you might be interested. They wouldn't let me catch any of them for supper though???

Hi All: It's our last full day here at the Stagecoach Campground. Will have to get up early in the morning and leave...
Photos attached are of Jim Stafford at his show last night, Not much action in the photo's, but he sure was a funny man last night. I haven't laughed that hard in years. Tears running down the cheeks. His show was best of the bunch we have seen here. Glad we made it the last show. Would sure see it again if we ever come back here. He's been here for 20 years now, so doubt we will see him on the road anywhere. He has his two kids in his show also. Very talented kids on piano, violin, and the daughter also plays the Harp....Super show.
The other shots are in and around our little restaurant we have our breakfasts at. To bad it is closed today. They say everyone is at church, but what about us. WE have no food???? Amy had to catch me eating, I caught her on the porch, and the other photo is of the restaurant itself.
I think we have about a 300 mile trip tomorrow, and the first 150 is down the state roads thru the Ozark Mountains here. Hated to backtrack North to get on an Interstate, then get on a Turnpike and pay to travel, so we decided to take the South route to I-40 that will take us out West to Arizona..
Have some things to do on the Motor Home to make it ready to go tomorrow, and Amy has a list of things she does inside it to get ready. Also have to find a grocery store again to stock up on travel food?? hee hee.
Will send a blog whenever I can get on line...Thanks for watching.

29 August 2009

Hi All: Having trouble staying on line this morning with AOL. It keeps kicking me off the Internet right in the middle of my mail. Hope I can get this off before it happens again.

We went to another show last night. It was called just SIX. It was six brothers singing and dancing and joking etc with the songs having NO back up music. The bass and drums were provided by the brothers. The drums were perfect, the bass great, and they even played horns in some of the songs using their voices. They were fantastic.
Enjoyed it very much. Would recommend the show to anyone. However, they do not allow any flash photo's. They mad an announcement that anyone using flash would be taken out back and beaten up. Sure had an urge to see how many of them it would take to do that to me if I took a picture?? Amy would not let me do it.....So we have no photos' of the show.

Kinda lazy yesterday, did find a grocery store and get some stuff to get ready for our departure, and Amy found a place she wanted to visit and I begged and cried till she took me to the Motor Home and went by herself. Poor me. hee hee. Then Amy cooked dinner in last night to. It was great, Fried Chicken, baked potato, and salad. Perfect....Was going to get one of those Frozen Custard cones after the show, but the traffic was so bad getting out of the theater we just snuck home...

Amy spent the morning in the laundry mate. She says it's a super one. Now she "loves This Campground too?? Laundry all done, so we are nearly ready to get on the road again.

Have been emailing with Bob Boardman and we are trying to get our schedules together to meet in New Orleans after we leave Phoenix. I hope we can get them together. WE miss them....

Well, time to go to the breakfast place and get my cholesterol fix for the day.

Oh, the photo is of the "Lady of the Lake" It's a paddle boat that takes folks out for lunch, or dinner and shows on the lake here. We didn't go on it, but we did go by it on our Duck ride.

Hi All: Another day in Branson: The photos above: The mountain is where they got all the stone and rocks for the dam here. It's one and a half miles from the mountain to the dam and they had a chute that went the whole way to make the dam. Pretty big job. Pharaoh has taken over my chair. I can't even get up from it that he is not jumping in it. He has a pad we put on it to make it more comfortable for him. I don't get a pad. The man with the guitar is Jim Greeninger. One of the best guitar player I have ever seen. One of our shows we went to yesterday. AND, Amy standing by our Duck we took a trip on yesterday. Was a very good trip, and the guide gave quite a lot of information about the area. Was a great trip.. Glad we took it yesterday as it started raining last night about 9 PM and looks like there is more for today.
We have a lazy day for today. Think Amy has a trip to the grocery store planned. Hope she don't find another Mall or some such place. WE have another show tonight at 8 PM. It's called SIX. It's six guys that do music by singing and they also make all the musical instruments by vocal also so I am told. Folks say it is a good show. Then tomorrow we go to the Jim Stafford show, and that is the end of our shows. This place has been a lot of fun, and have I mentioned
"I Love This Campground"? Do have one problem though. When I try to get out of my site I fear that there is a boat parked in the way. I don't think I can make the turn without some back and forth with the Motor Home, and with a dolly hooked on makes it tough to do that. Won't put the car on it till we get out and on some level ground.
Well, guess we HAVE to go to the restaurant for breakfast her at the campground. "I Love This Campground" hee hee.
Till next time.

27 August 2009

Hi All: We're still here having a great time. We went out yesterday to check what theaters were in the area and then check to see what shows they have. The first one we went to was the "Hughes Brothers Theater". Don't think they are any relation to Ken?? There are 5 brothers and they all sing and dance, and their wives also sing and dance, and their children sing and dance, and their grandchildren sing and dance and play violins. It was a great show we saw at 1400 yesterday. Also bought two more show tickets for the same theater. One for a single Guitar player show that is today at 1700, and the other is for a show called SIX. It's six guys that sing and don't use any back up music. They make all the sounds of instruments themselves somehow. It is said they are good. We see that show tomorrow at 8 PM, then Jim Stafford Saturday night at 8 PM. Think that is 5 shows, and enough sitting in little seats for two hours each.
WE plan to go out and have a "Duck" ride today, then visit a couple wineries they have here before our show at 5 PM. Had our super breakfast at our favorite dinner here at this campground. "I Love This Campground"
Getting the tickets yesterday at the theater the gal noticed my USMC hat and asked if I was a Marine. She said she loves Marines so she gave us a $40 discount on the tickets. Turns out she was part of the family of Hughes. She was adopted from Russia by one of the brothers, or the Father and Mother?? There are two adopted Russian girls who are part of the show too. I was happy for the discount.
Had a nice dinner here at the Motor home in my favorite campground. "I Love This Campground" hee hee. We grilled the shish-kabobs that Brenda gave us before we left. They are the Omaha Steak folks. They were great. Thanks Brenda...
Well, guess I need to start getting ready to go out and have more fun here In Branson. Might even have another "Frozen Custard" at Andy's today. It was as good as Dairy Queen?? No calories in it I am sure????
Oh Yea, The photo's. As you can see by three of them I did a lot of "Waitin' On A Woman" at a discount Mall she found??? I Love this Campground"!!!. The other photo is of the Hughes Family on stage. Almost don't fit there are so many of them....

HI All: Went to the Neil McCoy show last night and had a great time. He put on an "Outstanding" show. Two hours of laughing and enjoying the music. His bad is fantastic, and he spent a lot of time out in the audience touching hands etc. The photo's above are of him and one of me. See anything in the two top pictures that are the same?????We would go to see his show again anywhere and time. It was one of the best I have seen.
We are going to the restaurant for breakfast again this morning. Went there for the Michigan Hot Dogs yesterday. Didn't like them. The sauce had no flavor and was not hot at all. At least the wiener was longer than the bun which doesn't happen much at most hot dog places.. Will have to try something else next time there.
We plan to sight see today and visit the two wineries they have here today, and check to see what other shows are on this time of the year. This is not the show season here. It starts next month, so Getting to see Neil McCoy was good. It was his first show here too, and he's only here for 5 days, then back on the road. Maybe he'll be somewhere we are on this trip..
Well, Amy is standing here with her purse. Wonder what she wants??? Better take her to breakfast.

25 August 2009

Hi All: We are happy here at the Stagecoach Campground. Went to the office this morning and they called and got our tickets for two shows we wanted to attend. One tonight it Neil McCoy at 8 PM, then Saturday at 8 PM we have tickets for the Jim Stafford show. Both shows we have 3rd row center tickets. Should be a good time. We will get some other shows, but wanted to get these two for sure.
We went and picked up the tickets today and drove around Branson, got the car washed, went to Best buy, Walmart and a "Mall". Wow. Who woulda thought??? I did buy a new Directv box, but would you know that I checked the box here to make sure it didn't work, and Walla, it works here. I love this campground!!!!.. Went to their restaurant for breakfast this morning and it was great. Buffet for $4.99. Best deal we've had so far. They have Michigan Hot Dogs that we plan to check out for dinner before we go to the show today. It's walking distance from the Motor Home. I Love this Campground!!!! I have my Fox New back too. I Love this Campground!!!!
The photos are of Amy with Pharaoh at the cornfield campground before this one, and the rabbits coming out of that corn field. Then we have Amy trying to run off with the "Oak Ridge Boys, and a shot of the mountainous road coming into this area. Beautiful country.
We are resting up for the show here now. It's a nice place to do that too. "I Love This Campground"!!!!

24 August 2009

Hi All: Made it to the Branson Stagecoach Campground with no problems. Boy are we in the Ozark Mountains. Haven't seen such hills since Alaska, and the Rocky Mountains. These ones are not as high and long as those were, just a lot of up and down little mountains.

The Campground is super, has WiFi, Cable TV Full hook ups and a pull thru site. We have a beautiful view down a power line and we should be able to see the wild life come out there in the evening I would think. Looks like a super place for a Hunting Tree Stand right were we are sitting. Doubt they will let me shoot any deer??? Don't have a rifle any way. Just a .44 magnum pistol, so would have to be close. hee hee.

Our Directv satellite box had bought the farm. It acted up a few campground back when it would only download up to 10% and no farther. First I thought it was a weak signal, but yesterdays signal was 70%, but would only download to 10%. I called Dirctv and talked to a tech who ran me thru all the things I had already done, and he said he has never had that problem and he feels the box is shot. I was pretty sure of that too before I called. He would send me a new box free, but could only send it to our home address, and that will not help us on this trip, so I saw a Best Buy here in Branson so I will buy a new one here. Have a nice strong signal here, AND they give me cable TV to, but will need the satellite farther down the road. Stuff happens..

No photo's yet, but will have for the next Blog. Just wanted to let ya all know we made it here in good shape. There must be a million attractions and theaters etc here, plus Malls which makes Amy real happy. Don't think we will be able to go to everything, but I suspect Amy will try. hee hee.

Later.

23 August 2009

Hi All: We are at the Timber Trail Campground in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. It's 50 miles from St. Louis. WE have one more day tomorrow to go till we are in Branson, MO. We are here just for the night. Turned on the satellite dish and my box would load data to 10% and stop. Just like it did yesterday. I did all I knew how to do to fix it and nothing worked. I even called DirecTV and talked to Mike who said he has never had a problem like this either. He said they would send me a new box, but it would have to go to my home address, and that would not help us out on this trip. SOOOO, I guess I have to find a Best Buy or SAMS or some place to buy a new receiver box, then call Directv again and have it activated. Will things never stop working for us?? hee hee.

We went to the Air Force Museum yesterday and spent the whole day walking around looking at hundreds of air planes. Amy says she is clean full of Air Planes. Never wants to see another one. We did get to go in to 4 of the Presidential Air Force One's. Roosavelts, Trumans, Eisenhowers, and Kennedy's. Saw a bunch of R&D aircraft that they built, but never put in to action, and about every plane the Air Force ever had or has. It was a super super place, and the cost was right down my alley. $0.00 Nada, Zip Nothing. It was worth every cent... Ken, you would have had a ball walking around looking at those things....
Well, I just downloaded some photo's. Seems like my Verizon Internet thing works here OK. A pictue of an old helicpoter. Probably one that Ken flew, and my brother Jack worked on?? hee hee. Another of Amy coming out of one of the Presidential Planes, Me trying to start one, and a picture of the Russian "Redeye Missle" It is called SA-7 Grail. I was the director of the Marine
Corps Redeye Missile School, so it was interesting to see the Russian version of it. Donnie would be interested in this too. Ken too, as he was always concerned about seeing one in the air when he Flew in Viet Nam...
Well, better get this published before something else breaks..

Hi All: Made it the next campground near Dayton, Ohio. WiFi here is Iffyy, and I hope it hangs on long enough to get this posted. Photo's are of Amy's Uncle Don. (Aunt Beryl's Brother). A photo of the worlds largest basket at Dresdin, Ohio, and a photo of my hat that I thought I lost. We were eating at a little sandwich shop in New Castle and I set the hat on the seat beside me, and then got up and left it there. I ran back the next morning and Wala, they had hung it up on a row of hooks that had a bunch of hats that other folks had left there? Glad I got it back. Can't find another like it.
We plan to go to the Air Force Museum in the morning. Will be a full day I expect.
Campground here is OK. Lots of trees, so my satellite dish will not get a strong enough signal to let us see our channels. The local TV is not real good either, so it looks like we'll be reading books while we are here. Pharaoh doesn't seem to give a darn about anything except his food bowl..
Will let you all know how the museum goes tomorrow.
Hope this gets out.

Hi: I finally got the WiFi working and I'll try to attach a photo or two again: It worked. Have a picture of Amy outside the building after spending Mega Bucks on baskets, and me sitting outside showing my happiness about her baskets. hee hee. A photo of Amy standing in front of a Super Big Apple Basket, and a picture of Amy with her Aunt Beryl and Aunt Beryl's daughter Hedy. Hope you enjoyed the photo's. Might get to send more with this nice fast WiFi here

Hi All: Well, we got up and went to a Denny's for breakfast. Pretty good, and the most expensive one we've had so far. We then took off for the Longabeger Basket factory. Finally found it and there were very few folks there. Last time we were there it must have been some kind of convention going on as ALL the people in Ohio must have been there. We had the run of the place to ourselves this time. Amy only bought 3 baskets there. I'm afraid to ask how much they were??

Went to Kroger Grocery store on the way back and loaded up the fridge and then Amy has gone to the camp store that has lots of baskets for sale there. I'm really scared now. She's been gone a long time...

I tried to download a couple photo's, but for some reason I can't get it done here. Might be my slow Internet thing I am using from AllTel??? Will get some downloaded when we get a WiFi that is faster than what I am using.

We leave for Dayton tomorrow morning. Only a short trip again and we'll be there for two days checking out the Air Force Museum there...., Then on to Branson..

19 August 2009

Hi All: We got on the road around 0900 this morning. No rain but cloudy. No problelms getting out of town and on to the Interstates. Got to "Wolfies" Campground in Zanesville, Ohio at aroun 1300. Nice campground, quit a few campers here. We did get a pull thru, however, their WiFi will not work for me, so I am on my AllTel Internet machine. It is a lot slower than the WiFi I had at Rose Point. Would take me 15 minutes to download a photo. Will try to find out why I can't use their WiFi. Also, we are in the woods here and the Satellite dish will not lock up on the satellite here. And we get two TV channels here. One NBC, and the rest are Educational Channels. Good thing we brought a lot of DVD's, so we'll be watching them I guess the next two nights.

Longaberger is closed on Wednesdays so I guess we will be going there tomorrow. The office has a bunch of baskets for sale here. Hope I can keep Amy OUT of the office. hee hee.

Will make it short for now. More when I have more info to send.

18 August 2009

Hi All: Sorry it's been so long between blogs. Not much going on around here to write about. Doing the visiting etc. Mostly with Aunt Beryl. She sure cooks a great dinner, and the best cherry pie we had last night there. WE will miss her cooking, but my waist line has increased some since I have been here with all the reunion dinners etc, and Amy and I going out for breakfast so often here too. I think we have hit all the places that provide breakfasts here in New Castle?? The Johnson Sisters I think gets our vote for best. It's just up the road from the camp ground. Not a fancy place, but sure has good food and good service.

We will be getting ready to leave in the morning for Zanesville, Ohio so Amy can visit the Longaberger Basket factory. We were there some years ago, and Amy has about 115 of those darn things. I almost had a fit when I found out what she was paying for a dumb little basket?? They only sell two different baskets at the factory so they don't compete with their distributors out in the field, so Amy can't buy to many there?? Unless she gets more than one of each of the two baskets. That's a fact that has me worried. hee hee. We will be there for two days, then on to Dayton, Ohio where we have been told there is a great Air Force Museum there, so we'll be there for two days also, then one day to Branson, MO where we will be there for a week checking out the shows there.

I'll try to keep more info on the blog.

Thanks Jan for your concern that we had not published anything since the 13th. I'll try to do better. Haven't even taken any good photo's to add lately either. Will have to get Amy on the ball. Did take a photo of a sign in front of a work place saying "Obama Lies", and another that says "Pulosi Reid are thieves". Will publish that one soon. Hope it don't offend any one..

Hang in there, hope things get more interesting after tomorrow..

13 August 2009

Hi All: Didn't get a Blog out the last couple days. Amy kept me to busy visiting everyone.

We visited Gary's work yesterday. It's the "Joy Ice Cream Cone Mfg" It's the biggest cone maker outfit there is I think. Gary took us all thru the plant to see how Ice Cream Cones are made from the Bag of flour and sugar to the final package that goes to Dairy Queen, and most any other place that uses the cones. It was a super tour to see some of those machines make the cones and then send them down the line to folks that line them up for packaging etc. They had a "Robot" that takes the boxes of cones and stacks them on pallets 5 boxes high and the pallets move down to be wrapped in shrink wrap for sending to the storage warehouses, which holds millions of cones. One machine makes 10,000 cones an hour and runs 24 hours a day, with a break every 3 days for maintenance. Never gave to much thought as to where the ice cream cone comes from. There are only 3 cone makers in the USA. Joy just bought one to make it only their company and two others. It was a super tour, BUT, Couldn't take any pictures though. The are concerned with the machines they have getting in to the other companies hands.

We then went to a restaurant in New Wilmington for dinner. It was an old restaurant and the food was great. Had Cod again. Real good. Said goodbye to Jan and Gary and drove home from there. It was a nice day with them.

We went to a different restaurant for breakfast this morning. One that Gary said was a good one. It is "Jimmy's Bar B Q. Didn't know they served breakfast. It was real good too. Amy got one egg and ham, and the Piece of ham was a whole round cut from the ham about 1/4 inch thick. I got their home made sausage, and I got half of her ham too. Won't need to eat the rest of the day. But I need to get hungry this evening. We go to Jo and Kenny Harland's for dinner. They live next to Uncle Jerry who will be 101 years old this November. He sure is a wonder to be that old, and his mind is so sharp yet....Ruthie will be there for dinner also. I'm sure I will be able to eat by 1700 though.

Think we have a free day tomorrow. So far any way. Might try to sneak away and get my hair cut at "Franks" barbershop. He does a good job on my white hair...

Sorry no photo's for this Blog. Amy is slacking off on her job I guess.

12 August 2009

Hi All: One more day here in PA. Amy went to visit with Edie in Mercer and had Pete take her and Edie's picture above while at their house. I stayed here at the Motor Home and worked on things I needed to fix. Amy also went to the cemetery and found her Grandparents site there. As shown above in the stone. It's her Mother's Parents site. She also found the local transportation as shown in the "Horse and Buggy" photo. Lots of Amish folks around here. Amy said she stopped at an Amish furniture place where they sell their handmade furniture. She said it was beautiful and if we lived closer we would have some of it. I have heard they make super furniture. All by hand, not band saws etc.... The other photo is of Jan leaning over the table at their dinner they had with their families. Gary is in the green shirt with someones elbow in his face. WE go to their place tomorrow and will go to Gary's place of employment to see how they make "Ice Cream Cones". He works at one of the two or three place that make them for us all here in the USA...I am looking forward to that. He has also given me a couple boxes of the cones they make there. So it is most probable that if you go to Dairy Queen for a cone, it is one he may have made.
I stayed here at the campground and did some maintenance on the rig I needed to do. Checked air in tires and found that they have lost 10 pounds due to cold weather and higher altitude we are here in. Brought them up to the 100 PSI I keep them at. Checked oil etc. Also had a small leak around the door on the drivers side. Got up there and cleaned out some old caulk and re caulked it. Was lucky enough to have a rain, and I mean a rain to check my work. There is a small leak still there, so I will be back up there tomorrow. I must have gotten most of it though, as it really rained hard. Not raining now, but looks like it could any minute now.
We were going out for dinner when Amy got back from Edie's, but decided to take some spaghetti sauce out of the freezer and stay home and eat tonight. That's good.
Well, that's about all I can think of for today.

11 August 2009

Hi All: Another day in PA. Didn't do any visiting yesterday. We had a lazy day at the motor home. Amy did some laundry and we read some books. We left the rig about 4 PM to go to dinner as we were to be at Amy's Uncle Bob's at 6 PM. We went to a little sandwich shop that we had been to before that had better hot dog sauce than Coney Island and had a couple dogs. The sauce was better I think. Didn't buy any this time as we have some in the freezer at home from our last visit.
As we were leaving the hot dog shop the sky turned black and started blowing. We called Uncle Bob's and canceled the visit due to rain, and they said it was really raining at their house. We then took off for the campground as hate to trust the automatic system on our awning that is supposed to close it if the wind picks up. WE go here about 5 minutes late, as it was pouring. The awning had closed as it was supposed to, so we got soaked opening the door of the Motor Home. It rained for about an hour then stopped. No more rain all night. Today it is still rainy looking outside, but no rain yet.
Amy is going to visit Edie in Mercer today. I get to stay home and do the things I have on my list to do before we leave here next week. IF it don't rain any more.
Photo's are of the rear of Grandpa's house, and a shot at some wild turkeys in the woods beside his house. Must have been about 15 of them over there. Hard to see, but if you look close you can see them. Other shot is of Pete at his garden plot at the fish hatchery he has in Mercer...
Going to Jan and Gary's tomorrow at 1430 and Jan will take us to Gary's place of work. He works at one of the 3 plants in the USA that make Ice Cream Cones. It's Joy Ice Cream Company. I am looking forward to seeing how they are made....
That's about it for today.

10 August 2009

Hi All: Another day in PA. The cool weather is gone now. It got up to 90 today. No rain today, but it did rain last night some time..
We got up and went to a restaurant in New Castle for breakfast, then drove out to where I used to live. The photo with the red car parked in the drive is the house I lived in most of my life. The photo with Amy looking at the little brick house is my Grandfathers house. It sure seemed much bigger to me when I was there. Thought it was a real big house. Just a little house after all now. No one is living in it now. Did walk around back and saw a bunch of wild turkeys running around back there. Must have been at least 15 of them. I don't remember ever seeing wild turkeys when I was a kid living there. Brought back a lot of old memories. Mostly good ones too. Remember this place Jack and JoAnn??
The other photo is a photo of Pharaoh saying hello.
We went to Jan and Gary's for dinner yesterday evening. Her Son Dwayne, and her Daughter Brenda with their families. Had a super dinner and a very nice evening. Dwayne's daughter and wife Bonny sang for us. They were very good. I sang two songs and my fingers would not stand the pain any more...
Think Amy has most of next week scheduled for more visiting etc. Probably more photo's to put in the blog. Not posting them all of course..
